All Day Farewell Departures

ATDI GUIDED TOUR DRIVES
The drives will depart the Vernon Lodge after the Saturday car show at Polson Park and return to the hotel in plenty of time prior to the Awards Banquet. Participants will not get lost as there will be a tour leader, tail car and likely a car in the middle so nobody gets left behind. The routes planned have a minimum of traffic lights and other delays.

Tour #1 - Salmon River Road - 90 Minutes
This route takes you north of Vernon into the rural area of the Spallumcheen valley. This is mostly farm country but the roads are nice and winding with some straight stretches in between. The roads are popular with cyclists and motorcyclists as well. There is a stop at the Silver Creek store as our turnaround point before heading back to Vernon on Highway 97.

This is the route to take if you want some nice back road country driving

Tour #2 - Commonage Road - 75 Minutes
This route takes you south from Vernon onto the benchlands above Okanagan Lake. It skirts the famous Predator Ridge golf course before dropping down to the lakeside and passing multiple vineyards and several beaches. After a stop at the Okanagan Centre Park it's back over the hill and a drive along Wood Lake and Kalamalka Lake to a viewpoint overlooking the Coldstream Valley and then back to the hotel. The route is along narrow two lanes roads with likely little traffic except near the beach areas.

This is the route to take if you want views.

Tour #3 - Silver Star Road - 60 Minutes
This route takes you east of Vernon to the top of Silver Star Mountain (elevation 1600m). The road is steep and winding but it should be a great way to beat the heat from down in the valley. This is mostly an out and return on the same route however there are a couple of Vernon backroads that we will start with before we start the actual climb. Our stop and turnaround point will be the resort village of Silver Star (old west theme) popular with skiers in the winter and mountain bikers in the summer.

This is the route to take if you want to do a challenging hill climb

SELF DRIVE TOURS
The drives are all one way routes, so return is the reverse.

Drive #1 - Self Drive - Vernon - Fintry
This drive takes you along the west side of Okanagan Lake to the historic Fintry Farm (which is now a Provincial Park). Road is two lane, narrow and winding but well maintained with good lake views along the way.

Map

Drive #2 - Self Drive - Deep Creek Road
This drive takes you through farm country north of Vernon. Road is winding and should be pretty quiet. You can return via Hwy 97 or combine with portions of the Salmon River guided drive route

Map

Drive #3 - Self Drive - Ellison Park
This is a short drive along the east side of Okanagan Lake. Much of the route is through residential areas but there are nice views and a Provincial Park at the destination. Road is narrow and winding

Map

Drive #4 - Self Drive - Mabel Lake via Enderby
This is a longer drive; the first part is on highway with the turnoff to Mabel Lake in the town of Enderby. Road from here is winding through farms and forested landscapes ending at the resort of Mabel Lake.

Map

Drive #5 - Self Drive - Cherryville
This is a drive along a winding two lane highway. The route passes through the town of Lumby (you can turn back here as an alternate). The Cherryville Roadhouse is a good stopping point for lunch or just some famous pie.
